Long-standing civil lawsuit settled
Midland developer John Rapanos and other defendants have agreed to pay a $150,000 penalty, establish a 54 acre wetland, and preserve another 134 acres on two other properties after settling a civil lawsuit with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency that has been ongoing since 1994.
Cancelled joint venture deals blow to state's efforts to diversify
Some experts believe Michigan's efforts to diversify its auto-reliant economy suffered a setback Sunday with the announcement that a Kuwaiti government joint venture with Dow Chemical was being scrapped. The venture would have had a headquarters in suburban Detroit and created approximately 800 jobs.
