  • Football: Dow JV falls to Saginaw, 40-14
    Friday, October 5

    The Dow High JV football team lost at Saginaw Heritage Thursday night 40-14. Nate Thurston caught a 30 yard touchdown pass from Alec Marty, breaking three tackles on the way to the end zone and Malcom Brooks added a touchdown run in the second half.  Next week the Chargers travel to John Glenn.

  • Tennis: Chargers sweep Thursday SVL tournament
    Friday, October 5

    The Dow High Chargers swept the SVL tournament today winning its 7th title in a row. This brings the Chargers season to 16-0 on the year and 5 for 5 in tournaments.

    Next up is the Power Quad hosted by Dow at the tennis center on Saturday beginning at 9am. This features three reigning state championship programs in Ann Arbor Huron, Detroit Country Day and Dow High. Rounding out the quad is Port Huron Northern.

    "It is quite an accomplishment for this senior class!" exclaimed coach Terry Schwartzkopf. "I believe they graduate without ever losing a SVL match in either dual format or in tournament format. Four years of perfection. That is truly something special."

  • Soccer: Dow defeats Midland 2-1
    Thursday, October 4

    Midland High lost a tough match to cross town rival Dow High 2-1 on Wednesday. The Chemics got the score board first on a shot by Chas Wakeman in the first minute of play assited by Jake Rajewski. The Chargers scored later in the half to make it 1-1.

    The Chargers scored again in the second half to take the lead for good. The Chemics play again on Saturday at the SVL tourney at Bay City Western.

  • Cross Country: Meridian girls take 2nd
    Thursday, October 4

    The Meridian girls improved on their third-place finish at the first Jack Pine Conference Cross Country Jamboree by finishing second at jamboree No. 2 with 72 points on Wednesday at Mid-Michigan Community College. Meridian is off until the Midland County Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 13 at Stratford Woods.

    The Falcons dominated the first and third set and got a little help in the middle set to sweep host Bullock Creek 25-15, 25-22, 25-15 and improve to 26-5-3 overall and 4-0 in the TVC Central. The Lancers slip to 13-13-3 overall and 3-1 in the conference.

    Thursday, October 4

    Dow High will be looking to remain in the playoff hunt as they fight for victory number 4 on the season when the Chargers (3-3) host the Hawks (2-4) of Saginaw Heritage Friday night at 7.

    With a tough remaining schedule that includes undefeated Midland, Dow desperately needs a win to stay in the playoffs hunt. A team gets an automatic bid with 6 wins, but is not guaranteed a postseason spot with 5 wins, therefore Dow will most likely have to win out their remaining games to qualify.

  • Midland's Blake a Miss Volleyball finalist

    Tori Blake
    Tori Blake, a 6-foot, 3-inch senior middle blocker for Midland High, has been named one of 10 finalists for the prestigious Miss Volleyball award, given to the best senior player in Michigan.

    Blake, a three-year varsity player who has verbally committed to play for the University of Wisconsin next year, set Midland High season records last year for solo blocks (85), block assists (78), and total blocks (124).

    Tori Blake and the Midland High volleyball team displayed both brilliance and grit on Tuesday night to stay undefeated in the Saginaw Valley League. The host Chemics played mostly mistake-free in the first two sets and then overcame a stiff challenge in the third set to defeat Bay City Western 25-17, 25-14, 25-20 in an SVL match.

    Dow High's 6-1 Saginaw Valley League soccer win over visiting Bay City Central on Monday sets up a battle of league unbeatens when the Chargers host their crosstown rival Midland High on Wednesday. Dow outshot Central 11-5, getting one save in the first half from Ricky Knoff and three in the second half from Rafael Santos.
